Frito Pie

I feel a little weird writing a blog on how to make Frito Pie. I've had this my whole childhood! When I made it for Matt he had never had one before so today when I made it for dinner I decided to make a blog to share the news of the Frito Pie. Frito Pies are a Southern thing and something you can find at almost any rodeo or fair. In fact, I have a vivid memory of getting a Frito Pie at a rodeo as a kid that was served in the Fritos bag, cut open on the side, with chili dumped right in the bag. It was fantastic!

Pretty much you make some chili, any kind you want and pour it on Fritos. I like putting my cheese on the chips first so it gets all melty and sticks to the chips better.

I love Frito Pies cause they're easy, fast, and cheap. You can eat with a fork or get really messy and eat with your fingers; which is my favorite. I loved it as a kid and I love it now so I feel comfortable saying anyone would like it. Matt and I have also had Extreme Frito Pie where we make it the base of nachos and add lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, and other fun things. This would also make it go further and obviously make it more healthy as well. Enjoy!

  1. The other day my friend mentioned how she put sourcream on hers...I can't believe I've never done that. I haven't had this in over a year, so it might be time for me to whip some up!

  2. Trey eats his with diced onions and yellow mustard. I love mine with sour cream! Normally when the family has frito pies, I have a salad. Lettuce, tomatoes, chili, cheese, sour cream, and then topped with a few chips. :) I remember having a frito pie served in the bag at the rodeo in Spanish Fork, and then the time we helped run the baked potato stand in the grass of the library, we made a few that way too. To me, Frito Pie is a northern thing because when I first came back to Texas and I was in 7th grade i asked if the state fair would have frito pies and I had to tell my friends what that was. lol Trey's family calls them "frito Chili pie" and I always wondered why they had to specify the chili being on there and asked if there was a frito pie that they ate without the chili and they looked at me like I was crazy. lol
